Ohatchee Town Council Honors Retired Sheriff Matthew Wade
OHATCHEE — The Ohatchee Town Council took time during its meeting Tuesday to recognize Retired Sheriff Matthew Wade for his years of service to both Calhoun County and the Town of Ohatchee.
Mayor Steve Baswell, along with council members Celesia Jennings, Butch Mitchell, Perry Howard, Teresa Lott, and Anthony Crossin, presented Wade with a plaque of appreciation.
Several local leaders joined in the occasion, including Ohatchee Police Chief Alan Kelly, Calhoun County Sheriff Falon Hurst, Mayor-Elect Todd Eubanks, and members of the newly elected Town Council who will officially take office on November 3, 2025. Those incoming council members are Wesley Walker (Place 1), Leigh Gardner (Place 2), Raymond Underwood (Place 3), Bryan Griffith (Place 4), and Wayne Carden (Place 5).
Mayor Baswell praised Wade for his impact on the community, saying, “Sheriff Wade has been a true friend to Ohatchee and an example of dedicated service to the people of Calhoun County.”
The recognition highlighted the strong ties between Wade and the town, as well as the community’s gratitude for his leadership and years of dedication.
