Cherokee County Commission Approves Six Items in Regular Meeting
The Cherokee County Commission held its regular meeting this week, where no public comments or awards presentations were made. Commissioners approved the agenda, followed by the consent agenda, which included minutes from the previous meeting and payables.
No staff agency reports were presented beyond those discussed in the earlier planning session. The Commission also had no public hearings and no old business to consider.
In new business, six items were brought forward, all of which passed unanimously without objection:
-
Approve Job Description for Revenue Commission Reception Clerk – A grade 3 position was introduced to replace an employee currently serving in this role who is set to retire.
-
Approve Job Posting for Revenue Commission Reception Clerk – Commissioners approved the posting for the position mentioned in item one.
-
Approve Job Posting for Revenue Commission Clerk – A grade 5, step 1 position will be posted to fill the vacancy of an employee leaving for another opportunity.
-
Award Annual Highway Department Bids – The bids cover the period from October 1, 2025, through September 30, 2026.
-
Adopt Resolution Regarding Simplified Sellers Use Tax Program – The resolution encourages the Alabama Legislature to oppose any changes to the current system, which provides counties with funding through internet sales tax collections distributed across the state. The Commission also authorized the chairman to sign the resolution.
-
Approve Contract with Alabama Department of Youth Services – Commissioners approved a contract continuing the county’s agreement to house juvenile cases at the Coosa Valley Youth Detention Center when necessary.
Officials noted that applications for the newly approved job postings will not open until next week, at which point the positions will be available for interested applicants to apply.
All six measures passed unanimously with those present, and no votes against were recorded.
