Etowah County to Assume Direct Control of Emergency Management Services

Etowah County to Assume Direct Control of Emergency Management Services

GADSDEN, Ala. — The Etowah County Commission announced it will begin directly providing Emergency Management Services to county residents starting Monday, September 1, in coordination with local municipalities.

The county first created the Etowah County Emergency Management Agency (ECEMA) in 1984, with services delivered through the Gadsden-Etowah EMA. Now, operations will transition in-house under the county’s direct oversight.

Plans include the appointment of a new EMA director, the establishment of agency offices, and the opening of an Emergency Operations Center inside the Etowah County Courthouse.

During the transition, Sheriff Jonathon Horton will serve as interim EMA director, providing leadership until a permanent director is selected. Etowah 911 Director Wil Reed and the resources of Etowah 911 will continue to support EMA functions both in the short and long term.

Beginning September 1, citizens may contact the Etowah County EMA at 256-549-5351 or by email at ema@etowahcounty.org
