Woman’s Body Discovered Near Bridge in Rome

Rome police are investigating after a woman’s body was discovered Thursday morning during a routine bridge inspection.

According to authorities, Georgia Department of Transportation crews were inspecting a bridge near U.S. Highway 27, close to the old Car-Mart of Rome, when they noticed what appeared to be human remains in a nearby waterway.

Officers with the Rome Police Department responded to the scene and confirmed the discovery. The area was secured while the department’s Criminal Investigations Division began its work. The Floyd County Coroner’s Office was called to recover the body and determine the woman’s identity.

Police said the remains appear to belong to an adult woman, though her name has not yet been released. Her cause of death is unknown at this time.

Investigators emphasized that there is no indication of an immediate threat to the public. The case remains under active investigation.
