Serious Crash on I-759 Sends One to Birmingham Hospital by Helicopter
GADSDEN – The Gadsden Fire Department responded Tuesday morning to a serious motor vehicle accident on Interstate 759 that left one person critically injured.
Responding units included Engine 7, Rescue 1, Battalion 2, and Medic 1, along with the Gadsden Police Department and A-Med Ambulance Service. Due to the severity of injuries, Survival Flight 16 was called to the scene and airlifted one patient to a Birmingham hospital for advanced treatment.
The crash caused significant traffic congestion, with vehicles backing up more than a mile westbound along I-759 as first responders worked the scene. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the injured individual or details on the cause of the crash.
Motorists were advised to expect delays in the area as emergency crews cleared the roadway.
