Traffic Stop in Piedmont Leads to Drug Arrest

Piedmont, Ala. — A routine traffic stop in Piedmont on Tuesday evening resulted in a drug-related arrest, according to local authorities.

During the stop, a Piedmont police officer suspected the presence of illegal substances in the vehicle and requested the assistance of a K9 detection unit. Upon arrival, the K9 officer conducted a search and alerted to the vehicle’s fuel tank area.

A further inspection led to the discovery of a baggie of marijuana concealed inside the fuel tank lid compartment. The substance was recovered at the scene.

As a result, Raul Alverado, 26, of Piedmont was taken into custody. He has been charged with unlawful possession of marijuana in the second degree.

Alverado was transported to the appropriate detention facility following his arrest. The case remains under investigation by the Piedmont Police Department.
