Cherokee County Deputies and Corrections Officers Receive Upgraded Body-Worn Cameras

Centre, Ala. — The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office has recently upgraded its body-worn camera technology, deploying Axon Body Camera 4 units to patrol deputies and repurposing Axon Body Camera 2 models for use within the Corrections Division. These advancements are part of the department’s ongoing efforts to enhance transparency, accountability, and operational efficiency across all facets of law enforcement.

The Axon Body 4 cameras represent the latest in body-worn technology, offering exceptional video quality, extended battery life, and enhanced field performance. Designed for today’s connected officer, these cameras provide real-time situational awareness through features such as livestreaming, alert notifications, and integrated two-way communication between officers and command staff. This connectivity allows for more informed decision-making during critical moments in the field.

All footage captured by Axon Body 4 cameras is automatically uploaded to Axon Evidence, a secure digital platform where videos are auto-tagged, transcribed, redacted, and stored alongside other digital evidence. This streamlined process reduces the administrative burden on deputies and ensures that all evidence is readily accessible for review, investigation, and court proceedings.

Additionally, Axon’s Draft One technology, integrated with the Body 4 system, uses audio from body-worn cameras to generate police report drafts, significantly reducing the time required for report writing. This allows deputies to focus more on active policing and less on paperwork.

In the detention facility, the Sheriff’s Office has now equipped its Corrections Division with the Axon Body Camera 2 units previously used by patrol deputies. This deployment improves safety and reinforces accountability within the correctional environment.

These equipment upgrades underscore the department’s commitment to adopting data-driven tools that build community trust and support professional, transparent law enforcement. Axon solutions such as Axon Performance, Axon Standards, and My90 offer additional resources to analyze agency operations and improve community relations through regular feedback and performance insights.

Funding for these upgrades was made possible with the support of the Cherokee County Commission, which approved the purchase of the new equipment. The Sheriff’s Office continues to prioritize investment in cutting-edge technology to better serve the residents of Cherokee County and uphold the mission of community-focused law enforcement.
