Boaz Auto Parts Plant to Close in September, Affecting 82 Workers

Boaz, Ala. – Federal-Mogul Motorparts, a longtime auto parts manufacturer in Boaz, has announced it will permanently close its facility at 300 Wagner Drive, resulting in the loss of 82 jobs. The closure is scheduled for September 25, according to a recent WARN notice filed with the Alabama Department of Commerce.

Federal law mandates that large employers notify state officials in advance of mass layoffs or plant closures through the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act. The Boaz plant’s closure was listed on the state’s WARN database on July 30.

Federal-Mogul, originally founded in 1899, was acquired by Tenneco in 2018. Following the acquisition, Tenneco reorganized Federal-Mogul’s operations under its DRiV division, which focuses on automotive parts and aftermarket services. The Boaz facility is one of five manufacturing plants operated by DRiV in the United States, with additional sites in Kentucky, Missouri, Illinois, and Tennessee. The company also has a distribution center in Jacksonville, Alabama, and manufacturing facilities in 13 other countries.

The Boaz facility has operated under various corporate names over the years. It produces MOOG automotive parts, a brand Federal-Mogul acquired from Cooper Industries in the 1990s.

The plant closure marks a significant loss for the Boaz community, which has long relied on the manufacturing facility as a local employer. No additional details about severance packages or potential relocation opportunities for affected employees have been released.

The closure is expected to be completed by late September.
