Flooding Saturday Night Across The Region
The National Weather Service in Birmingham and Huntsville issued Flash Flood Warnings and Flood Warnings for a large area of northeast Alabama. Cherokee County experienced flash flooding in several areas including Alexis Road in Centre had water over it for a time. An area on Hardwood Hills Drive in Centre experienced flooding and In the Spring Garden area county road 8 and in Rock Run county road 29 experienced some flooding along with areas on county road 177. Reports indicate as much as 5 inches of rain fell on some areas of southern Cherokee County Communities.
In Piedmont, several streets and roadways experienced flooding. Several homes experienced some flooding with residents seeking shelter elsewhere. Several trees were reported down on highway 9 south of the City.
Portions of DeKalb and Etowah Counties were also under the Flash Flood warning for a time but we have no reports of flooding in those areas.
Early Sunday portions of Celburne County experienced flooding along County Road 10.
We have no reports of injuries at this time caused by the weather.
The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for an area including Cherokee, Etowah, Calhoun, Cleburne and St.Clair Counties through Monday evening due to the possibility of heavy rain from thunderstorms during the period. Pay close attention to the possibility of rising water if you live in a flood prone area and be prepared to move to higher ground.
