Rome Party Shootings Leave Three Injured; Two Arrested for Obstructing Police

ROME, Ga. — Two separate party-related shootings in Rome over the weekend left three people injured and resulted in two arrests, according to local authorities.

The first incident occurred early Sunday morning at a residence on Hardy Avenue, where officers responded around 2:15 a.m. to reports of a large party. Police said the home is known for frequent disturbances and estimated around 100 people were in attendance. As officers were leaving the scene, they heard several gunshots and quickly returned to find three people had been shot.

Two women suffered gunshot wounds to the leg, while a third victim was located near Grover Street with unspecified injuries. Emergency responders provided aid at the scene, including applying tourniquets, before transporting all three victims to a hospital for further treatment.

During the investigation, the party’s host, identified as Marvin Blackburn, reportedly became aggressive and resisted police commands. Officers say they were forced to use a Taser to subdue him. Blackburn was arrested and faces multiple charges including felony and misdemeanor obstruction, battery on a police officer, and maintaining a disorderly house.

A second individual, Sammya Sewell, was also arrested at the scene for allegedly interfering with police efforts to secure the area. Sewell is charged with misdemeanor obstruction.

The second shooting took place Saturday night during a back-to-school party on East 11th Street. No injuries were reported in that incident, but officers recovered various items from the scene, including a speaker, backpack, cellphone, table, and a rifle casing.

Authorities are actively investigating both shootings and have urged the public to exercise caution when attending or hosting large gatherings.
