Daniel Victor McCarn, 29, formerly of Huntsville, is now in custody and has been booked into the Jackson County Jail on felony charges, according to the Scottsboro Police Department.
The incident began shortly before 1 a.m. on Saturday, July 26, when officers were called to a domestic disturbance on Ruth Street. Upon arrival, McCarn fled the scene in a vehicle. Officers pursued him until he crashed near the intersection of U.S. Highway 72 and County Park Road.
After the crash, McCarn exited his vehicle and began shooting at officers. One officer was struck during the exchange. He was transported to a hospital in Huntsville, where he is recovering with non-life-threatening injuries.
Later that night, at approximately 9:56 p.m., a business owner in the 2000 block of Old Larkinsville Road contacted police after spotting a man matching McCarn’s description on a security camera. Officers quickly responded, deploying a drone from their command post at Calvary Baptist Church. A heat signature was detected in the area, and once movement was confirmed, officers and support teams moved in.
McCarn was located and positively identified. He was taken into custody without further incident.
Police thanked the public and multiple law enforcement agencies for their assistance in the case, including:
