Manhunt Underway After Scottsboro Officer Shot During Pursuit

Scottsboro, Ala. – Multiple law enforcement agencies are engaged in an extensive manhunt for a suspect accused of shooting a Scottsboro police officer during a pursuit early Saturday morning.

The incident began at approximately 12:49 a.m. when officers responded to a domestic disturbance on Ruth Street in Scottsboro. Upon arrival, the suspect—identified as 29-year-old Daniel Victor McCarn of Huntsville—fled the scene in a vehicle.

Police initiated a pursuit that continued until McCarn’s vehicle crashed at the intersection of U.S. Highway 72 and County Park Road. Following the crash, McCarn exited the vehicle and opened fire on officers, striking one officer involved in the pursuit. He then fled the scene on foot.

The injured officer was transported to Huntsville Hospital and is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Authorities have confirmed that McCarn remains at large and should be considered armed and dangerous. He is described as a white male, 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighing approximately 260 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.

In response to the shooting, U.S. Highway 72, South Broad Street, and County Park Road were temporarily closed as multiple agencies initiated an area-wide search. These roads have since reopened, though the search for McCarn continues.

Law enforcement agencies are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any sightings or information related to McCarn’s whereabouts by contacting 911 or the *HP emergency line.

As of Saturday afternoon, authorities have not released additional details, but updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
