Rear-End Collision in Centre Sends One to Hospital

Centre, AL – A two-vehicle accident on Highway 9 in Centre Friday morning resulted in injuries to one driver.

 The incident occurred when the driver of a gray Kia sedan, traveling toward Piedmont, rear-ended a red Ford SUV. The force of the collision pushed the SUV into the entrance area of the Dollar General store located along the highway. The Kia came to rest at the point of impact.

Emergency personnel from Atrium Floyd EMS treated the female driver of the SUV at the scene. She was later transported to a nearby hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Her condition was not immediately available. The male driver of the Kia was uninjured and declined medical treatment at the scene.

The Kia driver told officers he was returning home from work and became drowsy behind the wheel. He reported seeing the SUV’s brake lights but was unable to stop in time to prevent the crash.

The Centre Police Department, Centre Fire Department, and Atrium Floyd EMS responded to the scene. The crash remains under investigation by Centre Police.
