Two Bodies Discovered in Summerville Home; Investigation Underway

Summerville, GA – The Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the deaths of two individuals found inside a residence on Highway 114, directly across from Chattooga High School.

Deputies were dispatched to the home shortly before 7 p.m. on Monday evening after neighbors reported not seeing any activity at the residence for nearly three weeks. The welfare check was initiated following concerns expressed to 911.

Summerville Fire Chief Trey Skelton and members of the Summerville Fire Department assisted law enforcement with entry into the home. Once inside, deputies and emergency personnel discovered the bodies of two individuals.

Preliminary observations suggest the residence had been unoccupied for several weeks, aligning with the neighbors’ reports.

The investigation is being handled jointly by the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office and Chattooga County Coroner Jeremy McElhaney. The bodies have been sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy to determine the cause and time of death.

Sheriff Mark Schrader expressed his gratitude to the Summerville Fire Department and Atrium Health Floyd EMS for their critical support, calling their assistance “immeasurable.”

Authorities have not released the identities of the deceased or any details regarding the cause of death. The Sheriff’s Office stated that additional information will be provided as the investigation continues.
