UPDATE: Leesburg Tree Surgeon Remains in ICU After 40-Foot Fall; Family Thanks Community for Support

Leesburg, AL — A local tree surgeon is in critical condition following a serious industrial accident that occurred Tuesday on Hale Drive in Leesburg.

According to reports, Austin Hulsey was working to remove a tree when a portion of it fell back onto the bucket of a boom truck he was operating from. The impact caused Hulsey to be ejected from the bucket, resulting in a fall of more than 40 feet.

Hulsey was airlifted to Atrium Health Floyd Medical Center in Rome, Georgia, where he remains in the Intensive Care Unit. Family members say he sustained multiple injuries including a fractured neck and back, broken shoulder and bruised clavicle, several broken ribs, and a punctured lung. He is currently in a medically induced coma and on a ventilator. Doctors are expected to begin bringing him out of the coma in order to conduct further tests.

The Hulsey family is receiving an outpouring of support from the local community. Longtime family friend Blake Broome, of Leesburg, is accepting donations on their behalf to help cover medical and living expenses during this difficult time. Anyone who wishes to assist can reach out to Broome via Facebook.

Austin’s family has expressed their gratitude for the prayers and support received thus far, and they ask that the community continue to lift him up in prayer as he begins the long road to recovery.
