Floyd County Sheriff’s Deputy Resigns After Arrest in Florida Beach Incident

Rome, GA – A Floyd County Sheriff’s Deputy has resigned after being arrested in Florida following a series of alleged alcohol-fueled incidents at Panama City Beach.

Authorities say Christopher Adam Cook, of Rome, was taken into custody by local law enforcement after an altercation at Regency Towers, a beachfront condominium complex.

According to police reports, officers were dispatched to the scene after Cook reportedly refused to vacate a beach chair that did not belong to him and allegedly threatened to stab the chair’s owner. When officers attempted to remove him, Cook allegedly resisted by jerking away and tucking his arms beneath himself, causing the chair to flip over and break.

When asked to identify himself, Cook allegedly gave the false name “John Doe.” Investigators later determined that he had consumed the victim’s $15 alcoholic slushy.

Further investigation revealed Cook had been involved in an earlier confrontation with a family in the condominium’s bar area. Witnesses stated that he had made threatening remarks before walking to the beach, again allegedly threatening to stab individuals.

While being transported to the Bay County Jail, Cook reportedly attempted to escape his handcuffs. Authorities later found him in possession of a handcuff key.

Cook faces multiple charges, including theft, disorderly conduct, fraudulent identification, resisting arrest, and obstruction.

The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Cook has resigned from his position with the department following the arrest.

No injuries were reported in the incident. The investigation remains ongoing.
