Councilwoman Sherry Laster to Host Annual Free Haircuts for Kids Event July 28

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. — Councilwoman Sherry Laster will once again host her annual Free Haircuts for Kids event on Sunday, July 28, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Calhoun County Career Academy.
Now in its tenth year—with the exception of a pause in 2020—this back-to-school event offers free haircuts for children across the community. Designed to ease the financial burden on families, especially those with multiple children or in foster care, the event has become a valued local tradition.
Laster, a cosmetology instructor at the Calhoun County Career Academy and owner of Perfect Touch Hair Salon for more than 30 years, launched the initiative as a way to give back using her professional skills. Over the years, she has been joined by fellow stylists and barbers from Jacksonville who volunteer their time and talent to make the event possible.
Organizers say the event not only helps families prepare for the new school year but also gives children a boost in confidence and self-esteem as they return to class with a fresh look.
In past years, the event has drawn more than 100 children, and a similar turnout is expected this year. Parents are required to register their child in advance to secure an appointment.
For more information on how to register or get involved, community members are encouraged to contact the Calhoun County Career Academy.
