Piedmont Police Report Active June; Department Details Monthly Activity

Piedmont, AL — The Piedmont Police Department had a notably active month in June, according to a report presented by Police Chief Nathan Johnson during Tuesday evening’s City Council meeting.

Officers made a total of 35 arrests, which included 38 misdemeanor charges and four felony charges. In total, the department recorded 591 public contacts, issued 21 traffic citations, and responded to seven traffic accidents.

Police were dispatched to 346 calls for service, with 76 of those resulting in official reports being filed. Officers also conducted 313 extra patrols and district checks, covering a combined 8,148 miles throughout the month.

The city’s dispatch center handled 1,727 calls during June. Dispatchers coordinated 401 rescue calls, 81 fire calls for the Piedmont Fire Department, and 13 after-hours utility service calls.

Municipal court operations also remained steady, collecting a total of $16,758 in fines and fees, with $6,155 retained by the city.

In the Nuisance and Abatement Department, 36 cases were addressed in June. Of those, 15 involved overgrown yards. The department opened 15 new cases and completed 15, while also making progress on eight ongoing cases. Staff made four court appearances, two verbal contacts, and handled three inquiries related to building permits.

City officials noted the continued efforts of the police and code enforcement departments in maintaining safety and community standards throughout Piedmont.
