Mr. James Harlon Umphrey, age 76 of Sandrock, passed away Friday July 11, 2025 at Crowne Healthcare in Ft. Payne.
Funeral services will be held at 11am Tuesday, July 15, 2025 at the Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Lawrence Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10am until the hour of service at the funeral home.
Survivors include his daughters Juanita Christopher, Tammy Abernathy, and Sandy (Crystal) Umphrey; Son, James Jr. (Amanda) Umphrey; Grandchildren, Joseph Christopher, Lucas Abernathy, Connor Abernathy, Chloe Abernathy, Greyson Blevins, Brayden Person; Siblings, Lucille Dodd, Randy Umphrey, Steve Umphrey, and Eugene Umphrey.
Mr. Umphrey was a native of Cherokee County, the son of the late Arvil and Beatrice Waters Umphrey. He was a member of Big Rock Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Umphrey, daughter Loretta Humphrey and sister Shirley McGatha.
He always stayed positive and was a hard worker at whatever job he was doing. Mr. Umphrey was a loving father and grandfather and will be dearly missed by all his family and friends.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the funeral home for burial expenses. Donations may be dropped off the funeral, or given online on our website in the crowdfunding option.
