Construction and demolition

Contractor Miller & Miller began work on the $13.7 million bridge replacement project north of Geraldine in October 2023. Construction included boring and casting eight drilled shafts to form a stable foundation and installing 32 massive steel girders to support the bridge deck .

The project will continue into the fall, as the contractor must also demolish the old bridge, built in 1942, and remove the old roadway.

An overhead view of two bridges crossing a creek shows the much greater size of the new bridge, top, compared to the old bridge, bottom.
The new bridge is substantially larger than the old bridge, which will be demolished before the project is complete.

Larger and safer

At 715 feet long, 38.5 feet wide, and 75 feet high, the new bridge is substantially longer, wider and taller, correcting steep vertical curves on both bridge approaches and including shoulders to improve safety.
