Ballplay Bend Fire Department Awarded Funds for Community Storm Shelter

BALLPLAY BEND, Ala. — The Ballplay Bend Fire Department has secured funding to construct a storm shelter that will serve the local community during severe weather emergencies.

The project is the result of a collaborative effort involving members of the fire department, Etowah County Commissioner Johnny Grant, and Etowah County CEO Shane Ellison. Their joint work has been ongoing for some time, focused on bringing a safe and reliable shelter to the area.

Several years ago, the department purchased the site of the old cotton gin with the intention of eventually developing it into a storm shelter location. With funding now in place, early-stage preparations for construction have begun, and ground is expected to be broken in the near future.

The shelter will provide a much-needed safety resource for Ballplay Bend residents, particularly during tornado season and other high-risk weather events. Community members and officials alike have expressed gratitude for the combined efforts that helped make the project a reality.
