28 Arrested, $640K in Meth Seized in Bartow County Drug Task Force Operation

BARTOW COUNTY, GA — A major drug trafficking network was dismantled last week following a multi-agency operation in Bartow County, resulting in 28 arrests and the seizure of drugs, weapons, vehicles, and cash.

Law enforcement officials said the investigation disrupted a large-scale methamphetamine distribution network operating across Bartow, Cherokee, and Paulding counties. The joint operation involved local, state, and federal agencies, including the FBI, DEA, sheriff’s offices from multiple counties, Cartersville Police, and the Georgia State Board of Pardons and Paroles.

Authorities identified Jonathan Russell Nelson of Acworth as the primary target in the case. Nelson is accused of trafficking multiple kilograms of methamphetamine and maintaining connections to the Vagos Motorcycle Club. At the time of his arrest, he was reportedly in possession of more than two kilograms of crystal meth and several firearms.

The coordinated operation took place on July 2, when officers executed eight search warrants across the three counties. Investigators recovered approximately eight kilograms of methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $640,000. Other items seized included 17 fluid ounces of GHB, 16 firearms, five vehicles, and an undisclosed amount of U.S. currency.

Those arrested face charges related to trafficking and conspiracy to traffic methamphetamine, felony obstruction, and various firearms violations.

Officials say the operation is the result of ongoing collaboration between multiple law enforcement agencies committed to reducing drug-related crime and keeping communities safe.
