Collinsville City Council Certifies Election
COLLINSVILLE — The Collinsville City Council has officially certified the upcoming municipal election, with five candidates running unopposed and confirmed as elected to the Council. David Bowen, Donna Jones, Kathy Jelks, Robert Elrod, and Janet Osborne will all return to serve on the governing body.
Due to the Mayor’s name appearing on the ballot, City Clerk Jill Tidmore has been appointed as the election manager for the August municipal election.
During the latest Council meeting, a public hearing was held to address an amendment related to the city’s ongoing sewer project. The amendment noted that the Water and Sewer Authority will provide the $60,000 match required for the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding.
In support of public safety, the DeKalb County Development Authority contributed $3,000 to the Collinsville Police Department for the purchase of two officer safety vests.
Several appointments were also made to local boards and commissions. Mickey Jones was reappointed to the Housing Authority. Charlie Godshaw and Anthony Jones were named to the Construction Board of Adjustment, and Brent Killian was appointed to the Park and Recreation Board.
Additionally, the Council approved a $600 advertisement purchase for the Times-Journal’s annual football program.
The next Collinsville City Council meeting is scheduled for July 21 at 5 p.m. in the Council Chambers.
