Boaz Man Arrested for Sexually Abusing 5-Year-Old in DeKalb County

FORT PAYNE, Ala. — A 19-year-old Boaz man is behind bars after admitting to the sexual abuse of a five-year-old child in DeKalb County, according to authorities.

On Monday, June 23, a DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office investigator was notified by a deputy who had responded to a home in Marshall County about a report involving the alleged sexual assault of a five-year-old that occurred the previous month in DeKalb County.

The suspect, identified as Ricardo Nicolas Tomas of Boaz, was transported to the DeKalb County Investigations Office for questioning. During the interview, investigators say Tomas confessed to the abuse.

Tomas was arrested and charged with Sex Abuse – Child Less Than 12, a felony offense. He is currently being held in the DeKalb County Detention Center on a $50,000 cash bond. Authorities also noted that Tomas is being held for another agency, though that agency was not named.

DeKalb County Sheriff Nick Welden thanked multiple agencies for their cooperation in the case, including the Albertville and Boaz Police Departments, the Marshall County Department of Human Resources, the Marshall County Children’s Advocacy Center, and the 9th Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office.

On Monday June 23rd, an Investigator with DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a deputy who had responded to an address in Marshall County regarding a five- year-old being sexually assaulted last month in DeKalb County. The subject was transported to DeKalb County Investigation Office and was interviewed by DeKalb County investigators. Ricardo Nicolas Tomas (19 of Boaz) admitted to sexually assaulting the five-year-old. He was arrested and booked into DeKalb County Detention Center and is currently being held on a $50,000 cash bond.

 

Tomas is charged with Sex Abuse – Child Less Than 12.
