Marshall County Commission Chairman David Reed Dies Suddenly, Less Than Two Weeks After Taking Office

MARSHALL COUNTY — David Reed, the newly appointed Chairman of the Marshall County Commission, died unexpectedly Thursday afternoon, according to the Marshall County Coroner’s Office. Reports indicate he suffered from a fall.

Reed had only recently assumed office, being sworn in on June 11, 2025, following his appointment by Governor Kay Ivey on June 9. He was selected to fill the vacancy left by the late Chairman James Hutcheson, who also passed away while in office.

Reed’s death marks the fourth consecutive instance in which a Marshall County Commission Chairman has died during their term. His sudden passing has left the county in a state of shock and mourning, particularly as officials noted his eagerness to serve the residents of Marshall County.

At this time, funeral arrangements have not been finalized. Additional details are expected to be released once the family has made the necessary arrangements.
