Sanctuary of Alabama Plans to Bring New Hope and Healing to Women in Need
Cherokee County- A new chapter of restoration and purpose is unfolding at the former Daniels Chapel Methodist Church, now the home of The Sanctuary of Alabama. Previously known as Hope House, the ministry has adopted a new name to reflect the spiritual significance and calling felt by its leadership.
Led by Director Tiffany Kiro, the Sanctuary is a faith-based initiative designed to support women in need of healing and transformation. The mission centers around offering a safe, grace-filled environment for women emerging from addiction, incarceration, or personal trauma. The organization operates not as a detox center, rehab, or shelter, but as a spiritually grounded refuge for women seeking to rebuild their lives.
WEIS Radio was blessed to have Tiffany Kiro and Diane Traister in studio on Wednesday morning to discuss the organization. You can hear that interview here:
The Sanctuary welcomes women regardless of their background or past, offering them time, support, and community without a set limit on how long they can stay. The program blends spiritual growth with physical wellness. Daily devotionals and study of scripture are paired with routines to support physical fitness, including exercise and the preparation of healthy meals. Many ingredients are grown on-site in a garden maintained by the residents. Health is further supported through regular assessments such as blood work and nutritional guidance.
Beyond programs and services, the Sanctuary offers something even more essential—unconditional love and belonging. Many of the women who come through its doors have never experienced consistent care or support. Even two resident dogs, Hope and Joy, contribute to the nurturing environment.
Community support has already made a tremendous impact. Volunteer Diane Traister, who manages donations, reported that the response to clothing needs has been overwhelming. With an abundance of apparel now available, the ministry is shifting its focus to other necessities such as household items, hygiene supplies, and financial contributions. The generosity of donors has helped transform the property into a welcoming home for future residents.
The ministry is preparing to enter its second phase of development, which will allow them to begin housing women on-site. Plans include adding four tiny homes to create a village-style atmosphere and converting an old storage facility into a fully functional bathhouse. This phase requires specific resources, including sinks, showers, a new septic system, and skilled volunteers for installation and lawn care.
Long-term, the Sanctuary aims to serve up to 30 women in a secure, nurturing environment. Security measures such as fencing, a gated entrance, and surveillance cameras are part of the vision to ensure safety and peace of mind.
One of the most pressing needs is ongoing funding. As operations expand to include residents, monthly costs—including utilities, supplies, and maintenance—will increase. The ministry is actively seeking monthly partners and sponsors who are willing to support the mission financially. Additionally, they are in need of a large-capacity vehicle, such as a bus or passenger van, to assist with transportation.
An application and approval process is in place for women interested in joining the program. The organization welcomes referrals and encourages those who know women who could benefit from the Sanctuary’s mission to reach out.
