Special interview with founder and developer of CocoMats Jeff Allwine

WEIS radio had the privilege of having an over – the – phone interview with Mr. Jeff Allwine, founder and developer of Coco Mats, which is a covering in automobiles.

In 1996, Jeff Allwine mistakenly received a package of coconut fibers from India, and it reminded him of the iconic mats from when he was a child. So, what did he do? He revived the brand out of a house in Agoura Hills, CA.

After a few tough years and help from the car community, Coco Mats persevered and now has all vehicle mat patterns, including every Porsche, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and other European car manufacturers, from the 50s up to the current models, including left-hand and right-hand drive. Coco Mats have expanded so much over the past 30 years that they now have ” 10 to 12,000″ different patterns, said Mr. Allwine. Coco Mats are dedicated to making customers happy, which is why if you have a request that they don’t have, they’ll happily send you pattern paper for you to trace your footwells, and they will take it from there.

Even A-list celebs like Jay Leno and Jerry Seinfeld have purchased these mats for their luxury automobiles. People are raving about the front and rear mats with Juror Rob Sass writing for The Porsche Club of America saying, “If I could have a suit made by the folks at CocoMats.com, I would.”

WEIS radio asked the question that we were all thinking. Are Coco Mats only offered in luxury vehicles, or can anyone with an everyday sedan or SUV purchase these items? The answer is yes! Mr. Allwine explained that these mats were for everybody and even gave an idea on which mats to buy for different cars. For example, he suggested that if you drive a truck and are hauling dirt, rocks, mud, etc., then you should purchase the plastic mats.

For what is essentially a custom-made product, turnaround time is quite reasonable, and so are the prices, with front and rear mats coming in at under $350.Selection has grown to encompass numerous different materials like wool and sisal, but the original fabric is a fan favorite. These mats are also 100% waterproof and will hide and hold dirt until vacuumed, shaken out, or hit against a tree.

Whether you’re restoring a vintage Porsche or simply want to upgrade your family SUV, Coco Mats offers a unique, durable solution that’s as practical as it is eye-catching. As Mr. Allwine’s story proves, sometimes the best ideas come from unexpected places, and with Coco Mats, that idea just happens to be under your feet.
