2nd Annual Estes Field PCA Rodeo Returns to Centre This Weekend

Centre, Ala. — Get ready for a weekend packed with excitement, tradition, and family fun as the 2nd Annual Estes Field PCA Rodeo returns to Centre on Friday, June 13 and Saturday, June 14. The event, hosted at Estes Field, promises two nights of thrilling rodeo action and community celebration.

WEIS Radio had the opportunity to speak in-studio on Wednesday morning with Joy Perry, Executive Director of the Cherokee Chamber of Commerce, and Leann Lockridge, also representing the Chamber. Both shared their enthusiasm for the upcoming rodeo and the importance of what it brings to the local community.

You can listen to the interview here:

Presented by the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the City of Centre, this year’s rodeo will showcase top-tier talent as cowboys and cowgirls compete in classic rodeo events such as bareback bucking, calf roping, steer wrestling, saddle bronc, ladies breakaway roping, team roping, barrel racing, and the adrenaline-pumping bull riding competition.

One of the special highlights will be the appearance of State Representative Ginny Shaver, who will take a turn atop “Swampwater” the bull—adding some political courage to the rodeo’s already daring lineup.

Each evening will begin with a patriotic opening ceremony that honors the values of the rodeo and the country. Military veterans will be recognized during this time, a moving tribute that underscores the spirit of the event.

The rodeo is a family-friendly affair, and younger attendees can get in on the action too. Kids under 60 pounds can register to compete in Mutton Busting, holding on tight as they ride sheep for a chance to win a belt buckle. Older children can participate in the Calf Scramble, an event filled with laughter and excitement as they chase down calves in pursuit of prize ribbons.

Gates will open at 5:30 p.m., with Mutton Busting starting at 6:30 p.m., followed by the main rodeo events at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $20, and children 5 and under get in free. Tickets can be purchased in advance at the Cherokee Chamber of Commerce or at the gate on the day of the event. Parking will be available along Main Street, similar to last year.

In addition to the rodeo competitions, the event will feature rodeo clowns, bullfighters, and a wide array of food and merchandise vendors, giving attendees the chance to take home a memento of the evening.

Perry emphasized the collaborative effort that makes the rodeo possible, highlighting the strong partnership between the Chamber, the City of Centre, Cherokee County EMA, Atrium Health Floyd, local first responders, vendors, and the many sponsors who support the event. Members of the Cherokee Chamber Board of Directors will be on hand, volunteering in various capacities throughout the weekend.

Whether you’re a rodeo veteran or attending for the first time, the Estes Field PCA Rodeo is an unforgettable experience and a celebration of community spirit. Don’t miss out on this exciting, family-friendly event right here in Centre.
