Enterprise Businessman Chad Chig Martin Launches Second Gubernatorial Bid
ENTERPRISE, Ala. – Enterprise businessman Chad Chig Martin is once again seeking Alabama’s highest office, announcing his candidacy for governor on the Democratic ticket. This marks Martin’s second run, following an earlier bid in 2022.
Martin, who owns Honeysuckle Hemp in Dothan, brings a background in aerospace and real estate. He believes his business experience positions him to lead the state with a renewed sense of energy and direction, especially with Governor Kay Ivey stepping down.
His campaign is centered on economic development, with a particular focus on underserved areas across Alabama. Martin has outlined plans to improve infrastructure in neglected regions and expand access to affordable health care for children.
Education is also a priority for Martin, who aims to restore pride in public schools. He supports the creation of a state lottery, arguing that Alabama is missing out on valuable revenue that could support education, as 46 other states have already implemented similar systems.
If successful in the primary, Martin could face Republican Senator Tommy Tuberville, who recently announced his own gubernatorial campaign. Tuberville, a former college football coach, has pledged to improve education, expand manufacturing, and combat illegal immigration. He remains opposed to a state lottery, a stance that could set up a key policy debate if both candidates advance.
Martin faces a challenging path to the Democratic nomination, which he says requires strong support from voters in Alabama’s Black Belt. He is focusing on outreach to Black voters and collaborating with community leaders to broaden his base.
With a campaign manager in place, more financial backing, and plans to participate in statewide debates, Martin says this campaign is better organized and more robust than his last attempt.
