Dekalb County- According to the Dekalb County Emergency Management Agency, a portion of Interstate 59 North is closed in Trenton, GA due to a sinkhole. There is no estimate as to when the interstate may reopen. It is advised to find another route if you are traveling North into Tennessee.
“I-59 Northbound from the Exit 11 till Exit 17 is shutdown due to a sinkhole around the 15 mile marker. At this time we are unsure how long it will take to open the interstate back up. Please avoid the area and seek an alternative route North to I-24 and Tennessee.”
Edit to Story: Engineers on scene say the cause of the hole is still under investigation. Authorities hope to have the interstate open soon, with some estimates as early as noon.
