Steve Marshall Enters U.S. Senate Race Following Tuberville’s Gubernatorial Bid

MONTGOMERY — Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall officially launched his campaign for the U.S. Senate on Thursday, entering the race to succeed Senator Tommy Tuberville, who is forgoing re-election to run for governor.

Marshall, a Republican and a longtime fixture in Alabama law enforcement, announced his candidacy through a campaign video titled Alabama Strong. The video highlights his record as attorney general and his alignment with former President Donald Trump, featuring multiple clips of the two working together and praising each other.

Currently serving his second term, Marshall has been a central figure in shaping state policy, particularly in areas concerning public safety and criminal justice. His administration has championed legislation aimed at increasing penalties for violent crimes and has been an active participant in multi-state legal efforts that challenge federal Democratic policies.

A career prosecutor, Marshall began his public service as the district attorney for Marshall County. He was appointed attorney general in 2017 by then-Governor Robert Bentley and subsequently won election to the office twice. Now term-limited, he is ineligible to seek re-election in 2026.

His Senate campaign emphasizes a strong conservative platform. Key policy proposals include opposition to federal funding for Planned Parenthood, strict immigration enforcement, support for law enforcement, and a push for federal adoption of legislation to ban transgender women from participating in female sports — a proposal originally introduced by Tuberville.

Marshall’s entrance into the race was widely anticipated following Tuberville’s decision to pursue the governorship. He becomes the second Republican to declare candidacy, joining former Navy SEAL Jared Hudson, who launched his campaign a day earlier.

Positioning himself as a proven conservative leader with a record of accomplishment, Marshall aims to appeal to Republican voters seeking continuity in Trump-era policies and strong representation of Alabama values in Washington.
