GBI Investigating Deadly Officer-Involved Shooting in Bartow County

CARTERSVILLE, Ga. — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is conducting an independent investigation into a fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred Wednesday night in Bartow County.

According to officials, the incident began when 50-year-old Carrie Hall of Cartersville arrived at a residence in Bartow County and fired at least one shot. The homeowner quickly contacted the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office and identified Hall as the suspect.

Around 8:40 p.m., deputies, along with a Cartersville police officer, located Hall in her vehicle on Georgia Highway 20 near Conference Center Drive. During a traffic stop, authorities say Hall exited her vehicle armed with a gun and ignored commands to drop the weapon. Officers fired multiple rounds, striking Hall. She was transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

No officers were injured during the encounter.

Records show Hall had been previously arrested by the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office in January. She faced several charges at the time, including theft by receiving stolen property, aggravated assault with a firearm, terroristic threats, and possession of a weapon during the commission of a felony.

The GBI is expected to complete its investigation and turn over its findings to the Bartow County District Attorney’s Office for review.
