Search and Rescue Squads On The Coosa River In Gadsden Friday
The Etowah County Dispatch received a call of a man who went into the Coosa River and disappeared. He was described as a white male with no shirt.
Search and Rescue Teams were dispatched to begin an immediate search for the apparent victim under the I-759 Bridge at the ramp near the entrance to a campground.
After about 2 and a half hours of searching the male subject was discovered alive, in a slough across the river. He was brought to the landing where paramedics were to provide medical attention.
It appears the man was going for a swim and got caught up in the swift current and managed to ride the current and get across the river.
Units from the Gadsden Fire and Police, Etowah County EMA, Sheriff’s Department, Glencoe Rescue, Hokes Bluff, Ballplay Bend, and Rainbow City participated in the operation
