Fatal House Fire Under Investigation in Garden Lakes Area
Rome, GA – A tragic residential fire claimed the life of one adult on Wednesday afternoon in the Garden Lakes neighborhood of Rome.
Rome/Floyd 911 dispatch received a call reporting a structure fire at approximately 4:30 p.m. at 15 Wakefield Place NW, near Elliott Drive NW. According to Rome-Floyd Fire Division Chief Jamie Stone, responding units were alerted en route that a person might be trapped inside the residence.
Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy smoke and visible flames coming from the one-story home. Crews quickly launched an aggressive interior attack to suppress the fire and simultaneously conducted a search for occupants.
During the operation, one adult was found inside the home and was promptly removed by firefighters. Despite rescue efforts, the individual succumbed to injuries sustained during the fire. The victim’s name has not yet been released, pending notification of family.
The fire was brought under control by 4:44 p.m. and was fully extinguished by 4:48 p.m. No injuries to firefighters were reported.
Chief Stone confirmed that a representative from the State Fire Marshal’s Office was on scene to assist with the investigation, which remains ongoing.
