Collinsville claims second state soccer title and first since 2013 with 5-2 win over Tuscaloosa Academy

HUNTSVILLE – The Collinsville Panthers won their second Class 1A-3A state soccer title in school history and their first since 2013 with a 5-2 victory over Tuscaloosa Academy on Friday at Huntsville’s John Hunt Park.

Five different players scored goals for Collinsville (22-3-1).

Class 1A-3A state championship game Most Valuable Player Jefferson Acevedo scored the opening goal at the 20:08 mark, giving the Coach Jeff Stanley’s Panthers a 1-0 lead.

The Panthers stretched their lead to 4-0 early in the second half thanks to goals from Eddy Ortiz, Alex Herrea, and Jan Segura.

Tuscaloosa Academy finally got on the scoreboard at 60:20 in the second half when Anton Schmidt scored for the Knights (21-6-0). Senior Danillo Stojakovic cut the lead to 4-2 eight minutes later, but Collinsville closed out the win with a goal by Aaron Herrera.

Collinsville also got an outstanding game from keeper Jinen Shukal, who had seven saves in the contest. Owen Price had five for Tuscaloosa Academy.
