ALBERTVILLE –The Collinsville Lady Panthers earned a split in the Class 3A East Softball Regional at Albertville’s Sand Mountain Park on Monday. They defeated Weaver in their opener 12-5, but then dropped a 5-1 decision to Locust Fork in the winners bracket.
Collinsville will take on Randolph County at 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday morning in an elimination game.
In the win over Weaver, Collinsville rallied from two runs down in the first inning with four in the bottom half, a run in the second, five more in the third and two in the sixth.
Bella Wills led the Lady Panthers at the plate by going 2-for-4 with a triple, a run and two RBIs. Jemma Smith was 2-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs.
Maelee Barkley added a hit, two walks, three runs and two RBIs. Lexii Burt had a hit and scored twice. Karly Middlebrooks managed a hit, a walk, a run and a RBI.
Ella Coker walked, scored a run and had two RBIs. Carlee Davis walked and scored a run. Gabriella Whitmore scored a run and drove in one. Aubrey Reeves scored a run.
Smith earned the complete-game win in the circle. She allowed two earned runs on seven hits with a walk and four strikeouts.
In the loss to Locust Fork, Davis and Whitmore both doubled. Reeves, Coker, Smith and Wills each had a hit. Burt scored the Lady Panthers’ lone run in the bottom of the third inning.
Barkley tossed three innings and gave up an earned run on four hits with a pair of walks. Smith pitched four innings of one-hit ball with a walk and three strikeouts.
