Strong Thunder Storms Across The Region On Saturday

Saturday afternoon another storm system developed to the west and moved eastward across north central Alabama bringing strong thunderstorms producing severe thunderstorm warnings and a tornado warning.

Jackson County reported a possible tornado on the ground near the Rosalie Fire Department prompting the National Weather Service in Huntsville to issue a tornado warning for a portion of Jackson and DeKalb Counties. The Fire Department sustained some minor damage according to reports. The same system also prompted the Weather Service in Birmingham to issue a severe Thunderstorm warning for the northeast portion of Cherokee County. Another storm moving across the region resulted with a severe thunderstorm warning for Southeastern Etowah and southern Cherokee County late Saturday afternoon.

For the second day in a row, fire fighters and other emergency responders were called on to remove downed trees from several roadways. On County Road 41 in the Gaylesville area, trees and power lines were reported down with Cherokee Electric Co-op being called to repair the downed lines.

Large hail from 1 inch to golf ball size hail was reported in several locations in Etowah and Cherokee Counties.
