Mother and 4-Year-Old Daughter Found Dead in Polk County Home; GBI Investigation Underway
ARAGON, Ga. — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is conducting a death investigation after a woman and her 4-year-old daughter were found dead inside their home on Walnut Street in Aragon, Georgia.
On Tuesday, April 29, at approximately 2:30 p.m., Aragon police officers responded to a 911 hang-up call from a residence in the 20 block of Walnut Street. Upon arrival, officers and emergency medical personnel entered the home and discovered the bodies of the mother and child.
Aragon Police Chief John Tortoso requested assistance from the GBI, which, along with the Polk County Police Department, processed the scene and began interviewing individuals connected to the case. As of now, officials have not released the victims’ names or details surrounding the cause of death, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation.
“There is no ongoing threat to the public,” the GBI confirmed in a statement. The agency also praised the professionalism of all first responders involved in the case and extended condolences to the family and community.
The tragedy has shaken the small city of Aragon, a close-knit community of about 1,400 residents in Polk County, roughly 50 miles northwest of Atlanta. At Aragon Baptist Church, community members gathered in prayer. “It’s one of those things that just absolutely breaks your spirit,” the church’s pastor said. “Oftentimes in situations like this, the question that comes up is why — and the truth is, we don’t have an answer.”
Chief Tortoso addressed the public in a statement shared on the City of Aragon’s Facebook page, calling the deaths “tragic” and expressing his “profound grief.” He emphasized the far-reaching emotional impact on the community and asked for continued prayers for the victims’ family and the first responders who assisted at the scene.
