Talladega, AL – A single-vehicle crash on Interstate 20 on Tuesday, April 29, has resulted in the death of a Homestead, Florida man and left a passenger injured. The incident occurred around 9:45 a.m. near Mahaffey Road, approximately seven miles west of Oxford’s city limits in Talladega County.
Jesus M. Pita, 54, was driving a 2023 Peterbilt tractor-trailer when the vehicle left the roadway and overturned. Pita was pronounced dead at the scene.
Leonard N. Hilliard, 29, of Stone Mountain, Georgia, a passenger in the vehicle, sustained injuries and was transported to Baptist Health Citizens Hospital for treatment.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Highway Patrol Division is investigating the crash, but no further details have been released at this time.
