Cherokee County Commission meets to Discuss County Business

The Cherokee County Commission met Monday April 28 for their regularly scheduled meeting. There was no public comment from citizens or any other elected officials. The roll call established Quorum followed by the Pledge and invocation. There was no old business on the agenda.

As for new business on the agenda the commission approved an agreement between itself and the Department of Examiners of Public Accounts for the audit of the Corona Virus State and local fiscal recovery funds received by the county.

Other new business introduced was to award the bid for two 2025 or 2026 Chevy Tahoes. The two vehicles cost $49,749.00 for a total of $99,498.00. The motion was made by Commissioner Teague and seconded by Commissioner Jones. The motion was passed.  Also the Centre Rotary Club requested and was granted $2,500.00 for their ‘SO-COOL” program. The program will celebrate its 29th year this summer serving approximately 80 kids a day.

The final item of new business was to reduce the speed limit on County road 58 from 45 mph to 35 mph. Commissioner Teague made the motion since the affected area is in his district. Commissioner Shaw seconded the motion. The motion was passed and the meeting was adjourned.
