GORDO – The Collinsville Panthers split a Class 3A second-round baseball playoff doubleheader on Friday at Gordo. They fell in the first game 12-1 but rebounded to win the nightcap 14-3.
The decisive third game of the series is scheduled for Saturday at 1 p.m.
In the first game, Gordo took control in the second inning by scoring nine runs. Gavin Lang suffered the loss after working 1 2/3 innings. He allowed seven runs on four hits with three walks and a strikeout.
Will Edmondson and Jeremiah Killian had the lone hits for the Panthers.
In the second game, the Panthers pounded out 14 hits and closed out the contest by scoring eight runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Killian collected three of them, including a pair of doubles with three RBIs. Jameson Coker added two hits, including a double, with a walk, two runs and four RBIs. Sylas Adams also added a pair of hits, a pair of walks, a pair of runs and a RBI. Lang contributed two hits, two runs and a RBI. Mason McAteer managed two hits, a walk and a run.
Edmondson and Jake Middlebrooks both had a hit, a walk and two runs.
Zach Clanton picked up the win after working six innings. He allowed just one earned run on six hits with two walks and nine strikeouts.
