South Lamar earns first-round baseball playoff sweep of Gaylesville

MILLPORT – The South Lamar Stallions swept the Gaylesville Trojans in Class 1A state baseball playoff action Friday. The scores were 7-1 and 16-6.

In game one, the Trojans managed just four hits – one each by Alex Baty, Landon Chumbler, Bradlee Smith and Jared Butts. Baty also walked and scored a run. Butts drove in a run.

Hunter Allmond suffered the loss. He worked six innings and allowed four earned runs on 13 hits with a walk and six strikeouts.

In the second game, Collin Hendon and Baty both doubled, walked and drove in a run apiece. Hendon scored twice and Baty once.

Hayden Dodd had the only other Trojan hit. He also walked twice.

Cole Hendon, Allmond and Chase Mohler each scored a run. Cole Hendon also walked.

Collin Hendon suffered the loss after tossing three innings. He gave up seven earned runs on 10 hits with three walks and a strikeout.

Dodd worked two innings and gave up an unearned run on no hits with a walk and three strikeouts.

Baty pitched an inning and allowed two earned runs on a hit with two walks and two strikeouts.
