Gadsden Woman’s Pig Kidney Removed

(AP) Towana Looney made medical history by living with a pig kidney for a record 130 days before it was removed on April 4th. Her body began rejecting it and she is now back on dialysis, according to her doctors on Friday. Looney is recovering at her home in Gadsden

The removal surgery was performed at NYU Lagone Health. This was a disappointment in the ongoing quest for animal to human transplants.

Looney thanked her doctors for the opportunity to be a part of this research.
