The Cherokee County Emergency Management Agency Shines Their Spotlight on Cedar Bluff Police Chief Jeremy Stepps.

Throughout the month of April, Cherokee County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) is proud to shine a spotlight on the outstanding leaders who work tirelessly to protect and serve our community. Join us as we recognize the dedication, experience, and leadership of public safety professionals across Cherokee County.
Today, we are honored to highlight Cedar Bluff Police Chief Jeremy Stepps.
Chief Jeremy Stepps has dedicated over two decades to serving and protecting the citizens of Cherokee County. His career in public safety began in 2004 with the Cherokee County Rescue Squad and the Centre Fire Department, where he earned certifications as an EMT, Swift Water Rescuer, and High Angle Rescue Technician.
In 2008, Chief Stepps expanded his service to law enforcement as a Reserve Deputy with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office. By 2010, he transitioned into a full-time role within the Cherokee County Jail, and in 2013, he successfully completed the rigorous training at the Alabama Law Enforcement Police Academy.
Chief Stepps’ commitment to specialized training continued in 2015, when he completed the Alabama Law Enforcement Canine Training Program with his K9 partner, Keelo, leading to his assignment within the Criminal Investigation Division.
During his investigative career, he was awarded full FBI credentials as a Safe Streets Task Force Officer, working alongside federal, state, and local agencies on major cases.
Throughout his career, Chief Stepps has been recognized with numerous honors, including:
Two Life Saving Awards
Sheriff’s Star of Excellence
Multiple Chief’s Commendations
He is also SWAT Certified and a trained Tactical Medic, demonstrating a broad range of tactical and medical expertise essential to critical incident response.
In 2019, he joined the Major Crimes Unit and completed the Alabama Investigator Academy, earning an 80-hour Investigator Certification.
Chief Stepps’ leadership continued to ascend when he was appointed Sergeant/Investigator at the Cedar Bluff Police Department in 2022. In 2023, his exceptional service and leadership led to his appointment as Chief of Police.
Today, Chief Jeremy Stepps leads the Cedar Bluff Police Department with a focus on professionalism, community partnership, and unwavering dedication to public safety.
