In the month of April the Cherokee County Emergency Management Agency is spotlighting local community service heroes. They recently featured Ellisville Fire Chief Daniel Richardson.

Throughout the month of April, Cherokee County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) is proud to shine a spotlight on the outstanding leaders who work tirelessly to protect and serve our community. Join us as we recognize the dedication, experience, and leadership of public safety professionals across Cherokee County.
Today, we are honored to highlight Ellisville Fire Department Chief Daniel Richardson.
Chief Daniel Richardson has dedicated over two decades to public safety and service in Cherokee County. He began his career with the Ellisville Fire Department in 2002, rising through the ranks as Firefighter, Lieutenant, Assistant Chief, and ultimately being appointed Chief in 2023. With 20 years of service, he is proud to be a lifetime member of the department.
Chief Richardson is a founding member of the Cherokee County Fire Department Honor Guard, established in 2007, and holds certifications in Firefighter I and II from the Alabama Fire College. Additionally, he is a certified fire instructor, having completed his instructor certifications between 2006 and 2008.
In addition to his fire service, Chief Richardson has an extensive background in emergency medical services. He worked with Cherokee EMS from 2004 to 2015, where he earned his EMT certification in 2007, Advanced EMT in 2012, and Paramedic certification in 2014. He also served as a Captain with Piedmont Rescue between 2009 and 2015.
Chief Richardson was a member of the Cherokee County Rescue Squad for five years, earning the prestigious Rescue Squad Member of the Year award and achieving certification as a rescue diver. His commitment to emergency response also extends to the NASCAR community, where he has served as an On-Track Paramedic with Talladega EMS since 2017.
Beyond his emergency services career, Chief Richardson plays an important role in his family’s business, he is the owner of Dixie Green, where he has worked full-time since 2015 alongside his father, Hank, and brother, John.
Chief Richardson also serves as an Emergency Management Officer with the Cherokee County Emergency Management Agency.
