April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month and in recognition of that local School Resource Officers have planted a Pinwheel Garden in front of the Cherokee County Courthouse this week. The blue pinwheel is recognized as the symbol of Child Abuse Prevention month, however it also symbolizes the care-free childhood every child should experience.

The purpose of having these pinwheels in such a highly visible location is to spark conversations, and encourage community involvement in our protecting children.
Ms. Lori Harris, Executive Director, The Children’s Advocacy Center of Cherokee County has these comments.
“Our officers work with children every day. We have seen firsthand how important it is to build safe, trusting relationships. Children have found the courage to tell our local SROs about their abuse and many mention their SRO as one of their safe adults during our school based prevention program and in forensic interviews
