Marshall County Sheriff’s Office Conducting Mock Crash Event for Students Thursday Morning

From The Marshall County Sheriff’s  Office:
The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office doesn’t want the class of 2025 going out in a crash. Deputies, along with several agencies, will conduct a mock crash event to send a hard-hitting reminder to students and parents of the dangers and consequences of unsafe driving behaviors, such as drinking and driving, driving while distracted, driving at unsafe speeds, and not buckling up prior to prom and the end of the school year. We want to encourage parents about the importance of having ongoing conversations with their children to set their own family driving rules and reinforce teen driving laws. The mock crash uses real crashed vehicles set up on school grounds and student participants to act roles as crash victims. The school’s entire school body will watch the demonstration and learn how emergency responders conduct rescue efforts in real time. Parents and guardians are encouraged to attend and watch.
When: 04/03/25 at 9:30 am.
Where: Douglas High School 225 Eagle Drive, Douglas, Al. (Around Back)
There will be an opportunity to speak with agency representatives for media during the event.
Why: Traffic crashes are the second leading cause of death behind suicide for Alabama teens due to inexperience, risk taking distractions, and poor seat belt compliance. The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office is urging parents to set a good example when driving and talk to their teens about the danger of poor driving habits.
Agencies involved include the Sheriff’s Office, ALEA, Marshall EMS, Marshall County EMA, NASRO, TAASRO, Marshall County Coroner’s Office, Body Transport Services, Douglas Fire, Douglas Police Department
