COLLINSVILLE – The Collinsville Panthers swept Class 3A, Area 13 Fyffe on Thursday, winning 8-3 and 8-5. The wins not only clinched the area championship, but they also completed a sweep in area play for the Panthers.
In the first game on Thursday, Gavin Lang hit for the cycle. He finished 4-for-4, including a home run in the first inning. He also doubled in the third and tripled in the sixth and finished with two runs and four RBIs.
Jake Middlebrooks also homered and drove in three runs. Sylas Adams added a pair of hits and a run. Colton Pettus collected a hit, a walk and a pair of runs. Jeremiah Killian contributed a hit, a walk, a run and a RBI. Jeremiah Pruitt finished with a hit.
Zach Clanton picked up the win on the mound. He went the distance, allowing three earned runs on 10 hits with no walks and 13 strikeouts.
In Thursday’s second game, Collinsville had just three hits, but was aided by 14 walks and a six-run second. Mason McAteer had a pair of hits, a pair of runs, a walk and a RBI. Lang collected a hit, two walks, a run and a RBI. Middlebrooks walked three times and scored a run. Killian walked twice and drove in a pair of runs. Jameson Coker contributed a walk, two runs and a RBI. Clanton and Shaun Stewart both walked twice and scored a run apiece. Will Edmondson drew a walk.
Edmondson earned the win after working 5 2/3 innings. He gave up four earned runs on six hits with four walks and four strikeouts. Brantley Daugherty tossed 1 1/3 innings and surrendered just a hit with three strikeouts.
Collinsville hosts North Sand Mountain in a doubleheader on Tuesday beginning at 4:30 p.m.
