SPRING GARDEN – Connor Bates capped a four-run ninth inning with a bases-loaded walk, providing the Spring Garden Panthers with a 9-8 baseball win on Thursday.
Down 8-5 in the bottom of the ninth, Johnny Baker delivered a two-run single and and Carson Bostick contributed a run-scoring single to tie the game and helped set the stage for Bates.
Joel Hunter had a 4-for-5 performance at the plate with a walk and a run. Hayes Garmon went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, a walk, a run and a RBI. Zane Edwards homered, scored two runs and had three RBIs.
Bates finished with a hit, two walks and two RBIs. Baker had a hit, a run and two RBIs. Bostick contributed a hit, a run and a RBI. Grey Simpson and Dawson Ellzey both finished with a hit.
Hunter Parris walked and scored a run, and John Welsh scored a run.
Edwards worked 8 2/3 innings and gave up two earned runs on 13 hits with two walks and five strikeouts. Simpson tossed 1/3 of an inning.
Spring Garden hosts Cedar Bluff on Friday at 4:30 p.m.
