Cedar Bluff baseball falls short against Geraldine, defeats Jacksonville Christian

CEDAR BLUFF – The Cedar Bluff Tigers split a home baseball doubleheader Thursday. They fell short to Geraldine 8-6, but rebounded to take an 11-5 victory over Jacksonville Christian.

In the loss to Geraldine, the Bulldogs built a seven-run advantage in the sixth inning but had to hold off a late Tiger surge. Cedar Bluff scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to cut its deficit to two runs.

Jacob Chambers and Bubba Chadwick both collected two hits for the Tigers. Chambers and Caleb Edmondson drove in two runs apiece. Chadwick, Bryson Teague and Samson Mallett walked twice each.

Kuper Bradley suffered the loss. He tossed 5 1/3 innings and allowed eight runs on nine hits with four walks and seven strikeouts.

In the win over Jacksonville Christian, Hunter Stallings delivered three hits, including a two-run homer in the first inning and run-scoring triple in the fourth. He finished with four RBIs.

The Thunder took a 5-4 lead in the top of the fourth inning, but the Tigers regained the lead in the bottom half. Mallett doubled down the left field line, Stallings tripled down the right field line and Chambers grounded into a fielder’s choice, each scoring a run as the Tigers took the lead for good.

Hunter Mobbs earned the win. He allowed no runs on four hits with a walk and four strikeouts over three innings.

Dallas Storey started the game for the Tigers. He allowed two hits and five runs (three earned) over three innings, striking out four and walking five. Bryant Gravley also tossed an inning of scoreless ball for Cedar Bluff, allowing a hit with a strikeout.

Cedar Bluff travels to Spring Garden on Friday at 4:30 p.m.
